Our members shared this about their 4-H experience
"When I first joined the Storm Riders 4H club in August of 2007,
I didn't know anyone in the club. Feeling like the outsider in a new place is
never an enjoyable experience, but that fear didn't last long in this club.
After several meetings, being in a parade together and putting together our
first horse show, I can tell that 4H isn't a just an organization that looks
good on a college resume. I have friends of all ages, ranging in completely
different skill and experience levels. We all have fun together and look forward
to each meeting as an opportunity to further get to know each other."
"Through 4-H demonstrations and presentations put on by club members as well as knowledgeable members of the local equestrian community, I have learned about so many aspects of horsemanship and horse health. 4-H has also provided me with an opportunity to meet other teenagers in my area who share the same passion for horses that I have. My favorite experience has been putting on open horse shows. This was a great way for the whole club to get to know each other better and it also makes us appreciate how much work others put into the shows we attend. Looking back, my only qualm is that I didn't join 4-H sooner. "
"4-H has taught me a lot of things. Horse Bowl has taught me
alot in general about horses. Activities like learning about shots/where to
put shots, parts of tack, parts of a horse, and conformation of a horse, all
of these I have learned from and I have used them alot since I have. (It really
helps to know why the judge is looking at your horse when your in a halter
class, that is where conformation came in for me) I have gotten alot of
friends too by being in 4-H. I have learned about different breeds too. I also
have learned to Judge and we have been to a judging clinic and I did fairly
well. Then the club sat and watched and judged and compared our placings to
the final placings from the Judge Certifiers. I did really good surprisingly.
My parents think that if I was old enough and if I had signed up that I could
have been certified as a judge that day. Our club has held Horse Shows and by
running one it was alot of work but good memories and fun work. Also because
of that I now realize when Im at shows how much work that the people running
it are doing."
"What 4-H has done for me, it has given me the opportunity to meet people my own age that have the same interests and to share our knowledge. It has taught me to talk in front of people that i didn't know. It has taught me to be a good follower and has taught me to good leader. "
"4-H has greatly affected my life. I am a beginner rider, and did not know that much about horses. Through my 4-H club, I have learned more about horses and how to be a better care giver."
"4-H has impacted my life because now I realize how work in helping it takes to pull off a successful horse show. I also learned that no matter how much work it takes you can still have fun doing it. "
"One member also said that being a 4-H officer helped them do better in school because they learned how to listen effectively and take good notes. "
